Some of the victims were discovered in rivers, others were accused of witchcraft, while others were gold miners who had fallen victim to rockslides
Twenty-seven lifeless bodies have been discovered in the communes of Cibitoke province over the last 3 months. These were the findings of the province’s governor at a security meeting on Monday. The prosecutor of the Cibitoke public prosecutor’s office indicated that legal files had been opened for the bodies that had been identified.
The security meeting was held by Carême BIZOZA, Governor of Cibitoke province, for the administrators of the province’s communes. According to the administrators, some of the victims were discovered in rivers, others were accused of witchcraft, while others were gold miners who had fallen victim to rockslides.
In commune Mabayi, 8 people were victims of landslides. In commune Mugina, 7 people were killed on witchcraft charges. In Rugombo, 5 people were murdered, including 4 discovered in the Rusizi river and another found dead in the wild. In Buganda commune, 4 people were murdered, including 2 found in the Rusizi river, another accused of witchcraft and another shot by a policeman.
In the Bukinanyana commune, 2 people were killed. One was the victim of a landslide and another was accused of witchcraft, while in the Murwi commune one person was discovered in the river.
According to the administrators, the perpetrators of these crimes remain unknown. Jean Marie BUGIRIMANA, public prosecutor in Cibitoke, indicated that the cases of the accused were still under investigation.
