According to estimates, at least 26 bodies have been found in five of the six communes in Cibitoke province since January 2024.
Thérèse Nahimana (42) was killed and decapitated on Tuesday. The murder took place on the Rugano hill, in the Buhayira zone. The circumstances and perpetrators of the murder have not yet been identified, and the commune administration has promised an investigation.
The victim’s body was found at around 8pm on Tuesday, precisely on the Mataba sub-hill.
“Decapitated and naked, her body was covered in blood. She had been killed with a bladed weapon, certainly a machete. And judging by the body, she was probably raped before she was killed”, say angry residents.
The circumstances, motive and perpetrators of the murder are not yet known. However, the local authority says that the police have opened an investigation.
Neighbors of the victim say that the deceased lived in harmony with the neighbors.
“She was busy raising her 4 children. She didn’t cause any problems in the neighborhood,” they say.
Thérèse’s body was evacuated to the provincial hospital morgue.
