In his tweeter account , Antoine Kaburahe, Director of Iwacu reported on Sunday the 20th of November, 2022 that the jouranalist did not give any sign of life since November 19.
He becomes the second journalist after Jean Bigirimana went missing since the 22nd July, 2016.
“Our journalist Jean Bigirimana has been on trial for 2313 days,” reads on their website.
According to Iwacu, since morning they have multiplied searches and contacts at all levels.
A series of reports from local media outlets say that he was supposed to travel to his hometown with his fiancé in Kayogoro commune Makamba province in South-West of Burundi. Again, he was to knot rings with her this December, 2022.
However, he did not show up to the appointment in Bujumbura economic capital city where the departure was planned.
His family reported that, they checked in all prisons but in vain as they fear for his security. .
Therein, his telephone number have been off and unreachable.
The only remaining independant newsroom after other media house have been shut down after a failed coup 2015 has been under government lens and being trailed.
Since then, both parties played cats and dogs.
To date, official Iwacu press group website is not accessible nationwide.
Journalists have been either mistreated on the fields according to some reports or sentenced to prisons due to reporting.
Almost two years ago, four journalists were jailed for more than twelve months as they were caught in Bubanza in western of Burundi on their duties.
According to Iwacu for now they ignore any reasons behind his missing.
“At this stage Iwacu has not any hypthesis”, said Antoine Kaburahe.
