Unidentified lifeless body was discovered near Rusizi river.
The body of a man was found in a cassava field this Saturday on transversal road 7, Kaburantwa hill in Buganda commune in Cibitoke province (north-west Burundi). He was directly buried by order of the commune administration.
The body of a middle-aged man was found on March 30, 2024 at around 4pm. It was found less than 500 meters from the Rusizi river (separating Burundi and the DRC).
According to witnesses, the corpse had several wounds. He was first seen by fishermen. A police source reported that the victim’s arms and legs had been tied with rope up to the neck.
The same source also indicated that the victim had been killed elsewhere and his body taken to this location. The Buganda administrator who visited the scene confirms this information.
Pamphile Hakizimana ordered the immediate burial of the body. He explained that he had acted “to protect the population from possible illnesses”.
“The body has not been identified and was in full decomposition,” says Mr. Hakizimana.
